Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg presented certificates to successful participants at the Adult Learning awards ceremony.

During his speech, Dr Borg said that this electronic platform for adult learning in Europe is a new initiative by the European Commission, funded through ERASMUS plus programme. This platform has provided a concrete support to adult educators and providers to gain access to valuable resources that help improve the quality of adult education.

He explained that such actions complement the Education and Lifelong learning actions that are intended to be funded through Malta ESF Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 period, for which a budget of almost €47.4 million is allocated for initiatives in training and lifelong learning.

Parliamentary Secretary Borg said that the European Social Fund Operational Programme is a clear demonstration of the emphasis there is on human capital as an important part of the development of Member States. The ultimate objective is that no one is to be left behind. In fact, this was also reflected in this week’s budget, which sets the ambition for Malta to become a learning nation. He concluded by stating that education will be very much on the agenda of the Maltese Presidency of EU Council in the first half of 2017.
