In 2016, 201 persons under the age of 18 appeared in court according to parliamentary question answered by The Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela put forward by MP Silvio Schembri.
The serious offences committed by the individuals include theft, drug-related offences, involuntary and voluntary bodily harm, prostitution and violence against public officials.
Other offenders were charged with breaking traffic rules, smoking in prohibited spaces, disturbing the public order and possession of pornography.
Whilst the number is down from the previous year (296) there appears that annually at least 200 offences committed by under 18s since 2006.
