Kilchoman Single Malt whisky barreled in Maltese cask wins prestigious award

The Whisky Bible, which is considered as the gospel of whiskies from around the world, has allocated a total of 95.5 points to Kilchoman Guzé Cask - a whisky that Andrew Abela, General Manager at The Wine Boutique Franks, managed to create in conjunction with Marsovin from Malta and Kilchoman Distilleries from Islay in Scotland. This is the highest mark given in its category from among more than 4000 whiskies from Scotland and classifies as the best non age Single Malt Scotch whisky. The juice was distilled in the tradition of the Kilchoman distillery and finished in a cask that had been used to age Marsovin Guzé wine in Malta. This is not a Maltese whisky but since whisky takes more than 60% of its taste from the cask it is matured in, this is a Single Malt Scotch whisky with a twist - the taste of Malta.

The Wine Boutique Franks, has worked very hard to acquire this type of recognition, and this year they are already working on another project, this time with a Primus cask. Primus is another wine produced by Marsovin with dried Maltese grapes in the tradition of the Amarone wine produced in the Veneto region of Italy.

The Kilchoman Primus Cask, will be presented at The Malta Whisky Fair which will be held on the 18th and 19th of November at the Casino Maltese in Valletta. During this event, Mr George Wills from Kilchoman Distilleries, as well as other whisky ambassadors from various brands, will be giving master classes in the world of whisky and Jim Murray himself will present the 2017 edition of The Whisky Bible.
