SportMalta launches courses designed for volunteers in sport

SportMalta has launched a new course for volunteers in sport due to the importance of volunteering during Malta's EU Presidency.

The course was designed by SportMalta with MCAST where everyone who successfully completes a MCAST course will be given a Level 2 Award in Sport Volunteering.

 Through this project will be launched kullana of with the Presidency related activities where next year SportMalta will be presenting the results of this pilot project as one of the good practices that can we in the European Union.

 SportMalta will be offering this training to all its employees, and also sent an invitation to all sport organizations registered with it. This is being done so SportMalta can invest in the continuous training of employees and people working in the sports industry and to strengthen their skills in specific areas.

Participants of this course will be able to develop their skills and receive a certificate which displays these skills and thus be able to work with both local and international sports clubs. 

The course, which is divided into three modules, will end in March. At the end of the course the organisation will be creating a register of names of volunteers have successfully completed this course. This same record may then serve as a reference for associations and sports clubs.

 Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport Chris Agius said that this is an innovative project that will serve as a good practice during the Presidency of the European Union Malta. He said most of the work done by voluntary workers in sports associations should be recognized. 

The CEO of SportMalta, Mark Cutajar explained that this is another project which clearly shows that SportMalta is always seeing how to invest in its employees by creating learning opportunities and training. This follows another course that was offered to the workers with certified SportMalta MCAST Level 5 Public Service Award in Sport Administration. He recalled that this course was made through a partnership with the European Observatoire of Sport and Emplyment (EOSE) and collaboration with the MCAST which was funded by the European Social Fund.

The Principal and CEO of MCAST, Mr Stephen Cachia said that he is pleased that the MCAST is participating in this new project with SportMalta. "This course will serve as a valuable tool as it will give the skills and expertise in a specific field of sports as well as continue to develop those taking part. It will also be assisting sport organizations to take the maximum from their volunteers and simultaneously becomes formal recognition of their contribution. "
