The Paceville master plan in its current form will spell trouble for small businesses, Kamp Emergenza Ambjent said this evening.
Another consultation meeting, this time for residents, was held this evening by KEA and the St Julian’s Local Council.
The possible adverse effects that the plan would have on small businesses were discussed at another meeting organized last week by the GRTU.
Erica Schembri from KEA said the group was not against the idea of having a master plan for Paceville but it did not agree with the current plan. She said the plan has earmarked nine sites for the development of 18 high-rise buildings, with the possibility of adding more in the future.
She said KEA could not understand why a master plan for Paceville had been drawn up when no similar plans had been drawn up for localities like Sliema. Ms Schembri also labeled the plan as a “Christmas lift” for developers while residents were hardly mentioned in the 300 page document.
PN Deputy Mayor of St Julian’s Albert Buttigieg said the plan lacked a social impact assessment to determine how residents would be affected by the proposed development. Mr Buttigieg said he would be in favour of a sustainable master plan that did not lead the locality to ruin.
Last week he claimed that the master plan was the result of a pre-electoral agreement.
Residents also voiced their concerns, with some raising questions about the effect the master plan would have on swimming zones in the area.
