CNI leader and former Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici said todat that Malta should not take sides in the war in Syria or in Iraq. He insists that by taking a stance, the Maltese government is not abiding by the rules set in the constitution which clearly states that Malta "should exercise a politics of non-alignment". Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici even went on to say that neutrality also means that the government should offer medical support to injured soldiers and ISIS militants alike.
Addressing a press conference held at the CNI (Campaign for National Independence), Dr Mifsud Bonnici said that the government's decision not to support a Russian vessel which needed re-fuelling in the Mediterranean, was wrong. "We should not be taking ay sides. The Russians needed to refuel so that their bombardment in Aleppo goes on to defeat the rebels and the Islamic State." He said that the government argument, that a vessel which is causing so much atrocity in Syria should not be helped, did not make any sense.
"The government is not being consistent because the atrocities are being done by ISIS and Russian forces alike. Meanwhile, the government is supporting the military operation in Mosul which is being carried out by the west."
"If we denied refuelling to Russia because of the atrocities, then Malta should not get involved in the atrocities being carried out in Iraq by the western forces. Why does the government support the west, but refuses to help Russia or the Syrian government?"
"In the war in Libya, Syria and Iraq, Malta has supported one side to defeat the other. But we should be careful not to take a side."
CNI insists that Malta should honour it's true vocation as a neutral state and that the government should work for peace instead of supporting western attacks.
"Malta has supported the attacks which were led by a western lie in Iraq. Now, in Syria the lie is that the extremists want to set up a democratic state when we all know that is not the case. If you don't agree with them, they literally cut of your head."
On the EU's policy, CNI believes that the policy of the EU is not to promote peace, but to wage war. He praised the Maltese government for being the exception in not joining the EU coalition against ISIS.
Reacting to the US elections results, which saw Donald Trump become the 45th President of the USA, the former Prime Minister said that this result shows that the public is angry and wants the aggressive American policies to stop.
