Updated: Muscat meets Merkel; Malta, Ireland share interests in seeking best solutions

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning met German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss Malta's priorities during its six months of EU presidency which stary on 1 January.

Earlier, Dr Muscat met with Irish PM Enda Kenny, with Dr Muscat saying Malta and Ireland enjoy common interests in the search of practical solutions for European problems, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.

Brexit was among the topics discussed by the two leaders as was immigration and the economic and financial governance in a single market context.

Malta and Ireland can work together more in this, Dr Muscat said.

In this whirlwind tour, which will now take him to Berlin, Dr Muscat is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech, Foreign Minister George Vella and parliamentary secretary Ian Borg.
