Deputy Prime Minister meets French Secretary of State ahead of Presidency

Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech today met with the French Secretary of State for European Affairs Harlem Desir to discuss the priorities for the Council Presidency in Malta.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Dr Grech explained that the meeting focused on the bilateral relations between the two countries and have both agreed on the issues which will take priority in the Presidency. He said that the maltese Presidency will be held with a background of very complex issues, namely the upcoming elections in France and Germany. "The priority will be the sustainability of the union and to restore faith in the EU project," he added.

Mr Desir praised the excellent relationship between Malta and France and thanked the Maltese Prime Minister for choosing ti start the European tour with the French President. He said that the Presidency will commit to fulfill the deals reached during the Valletta migration summit
