Government has published the results of the inquiry conducted by former Brigadier Carmel Vassallo regarding the Daniel Bogdanovic case, which found that there was no political interference surrounding his temporary release.

A news report had originally alleged that the police released former Malta international footballer Daniel Bogdanovic from arrest following a request by a government official.

The statement accompanying the report read that through the investigation it results that there was no form of pressure, political or otherwise, made. It was also said that recordings of phone calls were heard and that interviews withwitnessess took place. The inquiry found that one phone call was made by the Xewkija Tigers Coach, Jesmond Zammit, who is also the head of Secretariat for Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg, however the phone call did not serve to put pressure. "So much so that the coach had already made arrangements for someone else to play instead of Bogdanovic".

The inquiry also concluded that it was a conversation between the Superintendent and the Inspector at the Rabat, Gozo police station that led to the decision of granting police bail. "The lack of sensitivity in this decision remains present".
