Police were alerted to a car that caught fire in the Kirkop tunnels at around 1.30pm. Fire-fighters were called on to the scene immediately to mitigate the damage as well as members from the Civil Protection Department (CPD).

As a consequence of this, traffic has been ground to a halt. The authorities have closed off one lane of traffic in the direction of Kirkop, with members from the CPD working to clear the site.

It is understood nobody was hurt throughout the incident, with the driver making a lucky escape out of the vehicle before it burst into flames.
