PN challenges Minister Bartolo to publish all correspondence

Wednesday, 7 December 2016, 13:35 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Nationalist Party today challenged Education Minister Evarist Bartolo to publish all correspondence in the case regarding a former canvasser who was allegedly involved in corruption and bribes in contracts issued by the Foundation for Tomorrows Schools, which later led to the resignation of CEO Philip Rizzo.

In a statement, the PN said that it has now become clear that not only did Mr Bartolo hide the corruption in which his canvasser was allegedly involved, but the Prime Minister knew what was happening and instead of taking action chose to hide the situation.

By defending Minister Bartolo, the Prime Minister is politically responsible but is also personally responsible for keeping matters under wraps.

All this happened at a time when the PM was defending Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri at the height of the Panama Papers scandal, the PN said. Muscat lost all moral authority to sack Bartolo because he has closed his eyes to corruption, the PN said.

The people should be told the whole story and Minister Bartolo should publish all correspondence, not the parts which suit him best, the PN said.
