Minister Mallia described how technology has become available to almost anyone and therefore Government must provide the rights tools for citizens to use it. He also explained that it was for this reason that during the Budget speech for 2017, Government has pledged to make our country one of the first Wi-Fi states in the world and a few weeks later launched a mobile government strategy for all public services.

While praising MITA's role in installing these services, Minister Mallia said that it is Government's duty to increase the creation and provision of such services so that even in the digital sector we can set an example to other countries.

Present for the press conference was also the Principal Permanent Secretary, Mr Mario Cutajar who said that in today's globalised society one cannot imagine of not having access to the internet. He remarked that this initiative will not only provide citizens with a free service, but will also strengthen the communication sector in general and make it easier to access information.

Mr Cutajar also said that Government is working on the improvement of services and how they are rendered to citizens. He said that it is not only Government's intention to provide a free service, but also to make it easily accessible from the widest audience of citizens.

This service will be available on all electronic devices which use the internet. These include laptops, smart phones and tablets. Whoever wants to use this services one needs to select the Wi-Fi site from where he is accessing the internet and accept the terms and conditions.
