Updated: 34-year-old quadbike rider dies after falling onto rocks in Xghajra

A 34-year-old quadbike rider from Zejtun died today, after falling down a cliff onto rocks in Xghajra in the area known as l-Ġolf tat-Tafal.

The Civil Protection Department, police, AFM rescuers and a medical team were all on site.

The incident occurred at 12.05pm. Preliminary investigations found that a group of friends were driving quadbikes, when one of them fell off the cliff. The rider passed away while receiving assistance to be pulled back up the cliff.

The victim has now been identified as Reuben Azzopardi, a kick-boxing champion who works in Brussels and who was in Malta for his holidays.

Duty Magistrate J. Mifsud is conducting a magisterial inquiry.
