Increase in 63% in tourists visiting in November than previous administration - Zammit Lewis

There has been a 63% increase in the number of tourists who arrived in Malta during the month of November when compared with the previous government, namely that of 2012, Minister for Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis said  during a visit to a number of hotels in Gozo.

He pointed to the National Statistic Office figures, which show an increase of 24% increase in tourists visiting the country during the month of November, as an indication of the achievement and success of the current administration to create a more sustainable tourism industry.

 

He also pointed to the fact that the number of tourists who visited Malta in the period of January 2016 - November 2016 has exceeded the annual total for 2015.

This he said has allowed an increase of € 61.3 million directly into the local economy.

The target set by the government is 2 million tourists in the full year figures.

The success in the tourism industry is felt through the islands with Gozo experiencing an 8% increase over 2014, Mr Zammit Lewis said.

 

 "I commit myself fully to boost this sector in our country. We can not stop for one minute and rely on current success . Only by working, with careful and vision that we can guarantee continued success and creating more wealth, '' the Tourism Minister said.

Tthe Minister for Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis was accompanied by the CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority Paul Bugeja, together with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Vincent Muscat on his visit to Gozo
