Updated: Huge block of clay falls on workers in Gharb; father dies, son hurt

A worker has died and his son was injured after a huge block of clay fell on them while they were carrying out digging works in Gharb, the police said.

The 59-year-old, named as Peppi Zammit, was certifed dead on site.

The police said that as the two men were working on the site, in Tumas Cassar Street, when the accident happened at about 9.45am.

The sources said that the son, aged 28, is not in critical condition. The police said he was taken to hospital for treatment. They later said the man had suffered slight injuries. 

Magistrate Paul Coppini is conducting an inquiry.
