Sport Malta and the Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports (Sports Journalists Association) are organizing another edition of the Sport Malta Awards, during which athletes, coaches and administrators will be awarded.
The awards go back 55 year - Wilfred Pirotta had won the award for sportsman of the year back in 1960 – but the event has grown much in popularity over the years and the number of participants has increased greatly.
Details about this year’s event were given by Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Chris Agius, who emphasized on the need for respect to be shown between all involved in sports. The sector had been tarnished by certain incidents this year but this should not dent this celebration, he said.
Mark Cutajar, who chairs the organizational committee, said the final event will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on 25 February and will be presented by journalist Pamela Schembri.
The finalists will be announced on 7 February, also at the MCC.
