PN reverses decision on candidates, says party media open to ‘full participation’

The Nationalist Party has reversed a decision which stopped election candidates from having a total participation on the party media.

Until yesterday, PN candidates were prohibited from having their own programmes on Net TV and Radio 101 as this could have given them an advantage over other candidates.

But a proposal made by leader Simon Busuttil was accepted by the administrative committee and, as from today, all candidates will be given full access to the party media.

The previous decision meant that people like David Thake, whose popularity multiplied with his afternoon show on Radio 101, had to leave the PN media once he was accepted as a party candidate. David Thake went as far as opening his own radio station, but now is free to rejoin the party media.

Contacted yesterday, David Thake said that he will do what the party says.

The PN reversed its original stand “in the wake of the strong propaganda being made by the government and the Labour Party, before which the PN must strengthen its presence in the media,” secretary general Rosette Thake said.

“The government spends openly from our taxes and brainwashes people through PBS, Super One and Orizzont,” she was quoted by the party media as saying.

“There are a number of candidates who have great experience and competence in the media, and can give their contribution to the party in spreading its message,” she said.

In the coming days all candidates will be asked to increase their presence on the party media.
