Man accused of Sliema armed robbery denied bail

Monday, 23 January 2017, 15:15 Last update: about 5 years ago

A man accused of an attempted armed robbery at a grocery store in Sliema last Saturday today was denied bail.

The man, who lives in St Paul's Bay, pleaded not guilty to charges against him.

The prosecution objected to his request for bail. When the defence argued that the man was married with two children and expecting a third, the prosecution said his wife had told the police that the couple were no longer together.

The court, presided by magistrate Anthony Vella, denied bail.

Inspectors James Grech and Mark Mercieca prosecuted. Lawyer Leontine Calleja was defence counsel.
