Monday, 30 January 2017, 14:51 Last update: about 8 years ago

As part of the 2017 edition of this festival, Fondazzjoni Paulus is organising an exceptional philatelic and numismatic exhibition at the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat. This exhibition is being organised to commemorate Malta's Presidency of the European Union council and 1950th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Paul.

This exhibition will be open from Saturday 4th February at 5.30pm until Sunday 5th February at 4pm. All the exhibits are the property of Rabat Mayor Charles Azzopardi, an avid philatelist. Entry to the exhibition is free on Sunday 5th February from 10am till 4pm at Wignacourt Musuem.

All stamps and coins in this exhibition have a religious significance as they portray various churches, chapels, religious anniversaries and saints. The figure of St Paul is a recurring one and visitors will be able to view a Gustav Dore' 1899 stamp depicting St Paul.

The exhibits will give visitors the opportunity to trace Malta's philately history over a period of 150 years (1860-2016) while also showing the way stamps were designed and developed over this long period of time.

The activity continues with a public lecture by Mr Azzopardi on the historic and religious influences on Maltese philately. This will take place at St Publius Church which is situated beside St Paul's Collegiate and Proto-Parish of Rabat.

As part of the same festival, on Saturday 4th February at 1pm, Fondazzjoni Paulus is organising a Pauline inspired cultural tour starting from St Paul's Bay and going round various places associated with St Paul. For more information send an email to [email protected]

The Rabat Agape Festival ends on Saturday 11th February with a concert at St John's Co-Cathedral featuring two world premiere works by Christopher Muscat and Mgr Marco Frisina. Muscat's cantata L-X ta' Frar 1928 and Frisina's oratorio Fino ai confini della terra will be performed by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra together with the Jubilate Deo choir under the direction of Marco Frisina.

Tickets are available from www.fondazzjonipaulus.org.
