Minister for Social Dialogue Helena Dalli said that equality amongst those of different gender and sexual orientation is one of the aims for Malta's Presidency. The Minister was addressing a meeting organised by the European Commission on gender mainstreaming.

Helena Dalli said the government is committed on safeguarding equal opportunities for all so that everyone is able to use his or her full potential in the economic sphere, social and political.

On female participation in the workforce, the Minister said the Presidency of the Council of the European Union will also be discussing the bill on improving the skills of men and women in the work force. This bill addresses issues related to precarious work in the EU.  

"Gender equality is one of the Presidency's main objectives so that both men and women can reach their full potential in a European society."
