Foreign Minister Dr George W. Vella today held a meeting with the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani. The discussion focused on the Malta Summit that will be held tomorrow, with migration, security and the future of the European Union being some of the topics discussed.

Minister Vella and President Tajani agreed that the European Union needs to work for its citizens and be closer to their needs. It is important for the Union to stand united and keep its fundamental values in mind, while at the same time, providing security to its citizens.

This meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss current international developments, with particular focus placed on the situation in the southern neighbourhood and sub-Saharan Africa.

President Tajani said that the Maltese Presidency comes at the right time to put the spotlight on important issues such as migration, and stated that the European Parliament will provide Malta with all the necessary support during the next six months.
