New geoportal to provide fast, easy-to-use planning data interface – PA

Monday, 13 February 2017, 11:05 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Planning Authority (PA) has launched a new online geographic information system (GIS) which will enable the user to access data in a faster and a more user-friendly web-based interface, helping the user to identify issues of primary importance to them.

The new upgrade system, which will be replacing the current Mapserver, has been made possible after the PA signed an Enterprise License Agreement with the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). The new GeoPortal system, enables the PA to better integrate maps and geographic data from a vast range of applications while discover, analyse and share geographic information in a more dynamic way, all through a one based platform.

The system further facilitates the process by which the PA provides all the information about planning applications, planning permits, scheduled properties and other useful planning data to the public. The system also makes it possible to share on one platform, data gathered by other departments and authorities.

The upgraded technology will allow for the selection and combination of different data sets showing up on the same map, such as, planning and base data, and other relevant analysis which are generated by the PA. Moreover, the new software will allow for a better customer care service, whereby customer complaints can get geo-coded making it more straight forward for the Authority to address and investigate cases.

The new system guarantees greater accessibility to information using different or specific data sections, a higher level of transparency and performance and a more flexible user interface which will include mobile adaptability.

Over the past weeks, the PA carried out a number of training sessions for various stakeholders to facilitate the use of this new geoportal system. The PA has as set up a dedicated support line 2290 1196 and email address [email protected], for Users who encounter any difficulties or need assistance with the new system.
