'Unconditional support' for Simon Busuttil’s statement on gay marriage

Wednesday, 22 February 2017, 09:34 Last update: about 8 years ago

MZPN and FOIPN today said they are four-square behind Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil in his push to amend existing legislation to bring into force gay marriage. We note that this position is consistent with calls from the PN leader twelve months ago, and is a position which we back out of a true sense of responsibility and belief.

MZPN (Moviment Żgħażagħ Partit Nazzjonalista) and FOIPN (Forum Opportunitijaet Indaqs Partit Nazzjonalista) take pride in the fact that its support is one built on a genuine belief that same-sex marriage is a civil right for all, and is not a belief borne out of political convenience. Panama-Papers-embroiled Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has voiced his ‘support’ for the sensitive issue of same sex marriage just twice in the past year, the first time when the Panama Papers issue broke out in the local scene, and once more yesterday when the Pana Committee investigating his close friends and allies confirmed that suspicions of money-laundering existed in his team.

It would be better for Prime Minister Muscat to address his personal aide Glenn Bedingfield’s regular homophobic comments on his publicly financed blog, which conveniently went unnoticed by Muscat, and focus on being taken seriously on these issues. In contrast Simon Busuttil has been consistent and true to his word, a characteristic of a genuine leader.
