A university student group will hold a silent protest in reaction to the news of the death by suicide of a Ghanaian migrant.
Studenti Demokristjani Maltin said the death of Frederick Ofosu, who allegedly strangled himself because of the uncertainty that he, and other migrants faced while in Malta, had moved it to host the silent protest later today.
“Although we are fully aware of the local immigration situation, one cannot remain silent over such news. A solution must be found both locally and on a European level to improve the horrendous situation that certain African citizens are currently in, but undoubtedly, the recently proposed measures (including THPN status) are neither sensible nor sustainable.
SDM will lead the silent protest today, Wednesday 22nd February at the University Quadrangle at 6.15pm. We invite the public especially all students to join us.
As said by British poet John Donne : ‘No man is an island.’ Let’s support our fellow brothers and sisters who have ended up in this sad situation.”
Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela yesterday held a press conference in which he urged people to stick to the facts.
