'Hairspray' at St Monica School Gzira – A story about bullying, equality, fashion and love

Wednesday, 1 March 2017, 10:33 Last update: about 8 years ago

Over 100 students from St. Monica School in Gzira are currently working on this year’s edition of prize day.  We will be giving you a warm welcome to the 60s by introducing you to the smash hit musical comedy Hairspray.

In 1962, Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, yearns to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance programme.  When Tracy manages to earn a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, and meets a colourful array of characters.

You can’t stop the beat as she sets out to dance and make a noise heard round the world:“Why fit in when you were made to stand out!!”

This musical comedy requires special technical design and props, as well as glamorous costumes, all of which are made by those collaborating in this year’s edition. It offers a fantastic creative opportunity for all the cast and engages the audience into a world of hope and dreams.

An extra performance for the general public will be held on Friday 31st March at 6.30pm. Tickets are available from school during school hours, adults €7, children (up to 12 years of age) €5. One can also book tickets on 21340127 and 79340127.

Schools interested in attending during the morning performances on the 27th or the 28th of March are to contact St. Monica school Gzira for a group price.
