More than 6,400 families are using free childcare services, Educaation and Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo announced yesterday.
The scheme, now in its third year, aims to increase female participation in the labour market.
The government said in a statement that free childcare was one of the success stories of the past four years. It had also placed Malta as one of the best in Europe in the sector. “The European Commission has remarked that this measure is one of the most fruitful, and other EU countries are following in Malta’s footsteps.”
Mr Bartolo yesterday visited one of many childcare centres that are participating in the government scheme and said more than €12 million are being invested in the scheme this year. He said more women are now working, thanks to the scheme.
