Floriana council says TM kept it in the dark on Porte des Bombes barrier

The Floriana Local Council has complained that it was left in the dark by Transport Malta about the installation of barriers in National Road.

The project aims to discourage people from crossing the busy road and use the underground passageway instead, TM said earlier this week.

In a statement, the council said it was all in favour of the project, but lamented the fact that it only got to know about it through the media. “The council was not consulted, and it is not asking to be consulted on this matter, but it should at least have been notified.”

It also pointed out that pedestrians were still crossing the dangerous road because the barriers did not cover the entire stretch of road. The council said it did not know whether the barrier would be extended.

It also insisted that the subway needs to be upgraded – that is the main reason why many people do not use it. Once this was done, the tunnel has to be kept clean and safe.
