A total of 9,042 third country nationals were working in Malta and Gozo as at end of September 2016, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said today.
He was responding to a question posed by PN MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.
3,445 of the total were female, and the rest were male.
The highest number of third country nationals working on the islands came from the Philippines (1,625) and Serbia (1,380).
Of the total number, 387 third country nationals worked as self-employed persons.
As for EU nationals not including Maltese persons, there were 25,115 EU nationals working on the island by the end of the same month. 10,331 were female. The largest nationalities were Italian (5,724) and British (4,218). Of the total number of EU nationals, 2,958 were self-employed.
