Parliamentary Secretary for sport Chris Agius was injured this morning when he was hit by a car while crossing the road in Cospciua this morning, The Malta Independent has learnt.
The Labour MP, a member of the House of Representatives since 1996, was hit by a Kia Picanto as he was crossing Santa Tereza Street at 8am. The car was being driven by a 43-year-old woman of Birkirkara.
In a statement, the government said that Mr Agius, 55, suffered a broken leg and is in hospital for treatment.
The government said that Mr Agius was run over while on a zebra crossing.
In a statement, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on behalf of the two sides of the House, wished Mr Agius a speedy recovery.
