Leisure Clothing shuts down, puts assets up for sale

Leisure Clothing, the company at the heart of a worker exploitation and human trafficking scandal, has shut down.

The company has also put its assets up for sale. Leisure Clothing manufactured high-end women’s clothing brands, and the company produced around 20,000 garments a month.

CICET the parent company, tasked Eddisons, a UK valuer, with selling its assets, including sewing machines, tables, raw materials, vehicles etc.

In 2014, police raided the factory in Malta, and the director was charged with the exploitation of workers.

Asian workers had told the court that they were lured to Malta under the promis of high wages, arguing that this did not end up being the case. They also told the court of their appalling living conditions.
