Thursday, 30 March 2017, 15:53 Last update: about 8 years ago

The police are investigating a video which showed a man and woman involved in sexual acts in a van, with the woman wearing a Maltapost T-shirt.

The video has been the talk of the town over the past two days after it was released on the social media.

In a statement, Maltapost today said "the incident of the alleged video is being tackled with utmost respect, rights and confidentiality towards all concerned. MaltaPost invariably ensures that such situations concerning its staff members are given full attention.

"The company is informed that investigations are being carried out by the Police authorities and consequently these should be allowed take their course.

"The public will understand that MaltaPost is itself altogether extraneous to the incident."

In a separate statement, the General Workers Union said it is assisting the two workers who appeared on an amateur video while having an intimate relationship.

The union said that after the illegal sharing of this video, the workers are facing problems at work.

The GWU said it does not enter into the merits of the video, but expresses its dismay at the irresponsible behaviour of third parties which has led the two people involved to pass through days of tension as their privacy was exposed to public scrutiny.

The GWU said that the way the video was shared on the social media shows lack of professionalism from whoever had the duty to protect the privacy of the two individuals. This is a case of negligence that could lead to serious consequences to the people involved. The reality is that the two people in the video have become victims of unscrupulous people, the GWU said.

The union said steps were taken for the two individuals not to face repercussions at their place of work, and thanked Maltapost for understanding the "situation" which, the union said, took place in the two individuals' free time.
