Society should not judge those who make mistakes, President says

In society no person is better than the next because everyone can make mistakes, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said, after attending a Holy Week play at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

The play, organized by the Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl Foundation, was written and acted out by prison inmates. The President was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela.

Mrs Coleiro Preca spoke about the importance of a good upbringing, saying that people with a good upbringing find it easier to stand up again and move on with their lives if they make mistakes.

She also said society should not judge those who are working on reforming themselves.  This, she said, would make prisoners anxious about the fate that awaited them once they return to society.

Minister Abela said that the Corradino Correctional Facility could also help people move from the darkness towards the light. He also spoke about the ongoing efforts at the prison to help inmates learn new skills which would be useful to them once they rejoin society.
