Film Commission announces increased budget for Malta Film Fund

For the first time since its inception, the Film Fund will increase to € 300,000, a statement released today read.

New and established filmmakers can apply for development support which includes a Writers' Grant and Development Grants. The Film Fund also offers help to producers through three schemes: New Talent, Short Film and Production Grants.

The Malta Film Fund is administered by the Malta Film Commission under the auspices of the Ministry for Tourism.

"To take the industry to the next level, the Film Commission is introducing new schemes to support marketing and distribution.  These will help local film makers raise their international profile and advance and foster a wider international distribution for Maltese Films. The new  Film Fund will now include a Film Distribution Marketing Grant  and an International Film Festival Fees Grant.  Relevant guidelines can be found and downloaded from the Malta Film Commission website http://www.maltafilmcommission.com/malta-film-fund/" a statement read.

The Malta Film Fund is also introducing a new online application system with E-forms.  All applications are to be submitted, by 12 noon on Friday, 30 June 2017.

Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech said that the changes were done following discussion sessions with key industry experts and local film makers. "We are working hand in hand with local film makers to help them face the challenges of the industry. "

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said that this is another step forward,  taking the indigenous film industry to the next level. "The Film Fund is part of our strategy to create a strong and sustainable film industry."
