Angelle Azzopardi, 28, Administrative Assistant and Justin Farrugia, 32 Sharpshoot Media Director and Producer

2 July 2016. Nuptial mass held at St Mary's old parish church, Birkirkara and reception at Palazzo Promontorio, Wardija.

Their passion for TV and film production is what brought Justin and Angelle together. "During our long nights of filming or editing there was something which kept us going and which connected us from the very start," Angelle told I Do magazine. Justin is synonymous with local TV productions Strada Stretta, Rajt ma Rajtx and Xjenzarti. Being a film enthusiast herself, Angelle has been involved in such productions for some time now.

They both knew they were meant to be together from the beginning of their relationship. "When we started going out together we just knew this was not just a temporary fling. There was something which connected us and naturally accompanied us through seven wonderful years together and hopefully many more years to come," Justin continued.

"Being quite a clumsy person I used to tell Justin I didn't want a diamond ring as I was afraid of losing it. I never encouraged him to prepare a romantic proposal as I get shy around these situations. Nonetheless Justin was planning to propose during a trip we had in Italy.  However, he got sick and the plan failed as he ended up in bed with a fever. A few months down the line on my birthday, I received a much unexpected proposal. I was getting ready to head to the cinema to watch The Great Gatsby. On that night, I discovered that deep down I longed for a proposal after all!" Angelle admitted.

The film enthusiast couple tied the knot on 2 July last year.  The theme for their wedding was Great Gatsby and old Hollywood style with a contemporary twist.

The mass was held at St Mary's Old Parish Church in Birkirkara. The couple explained how they loved the way the church has been restored and was conveniently centrally located for most of the guests.

The bride walked up the aisle wearing a designer dress by Demetrios. The modified A-line dress, bought from Wedding Bells, featured a high illusion neck accented with jewelled embroidery, Swarovski crystals and a hint of ivory pearls.  The dramatic sheer illusion back featured a button closure and chapel train. The style was a mix between simple and sophisticated and had something vintage-looking evoking the style icon, Grace Kelly.

The dresses worn by the maid-of-honour and bridesmaids were also inspired by the old Hollywood, art deco style. The groom and the groomsmen wore a suit by Bortex.

The reception was held at Palazzo Promontorio, Wardija. "We chose the venue as it has a beautiful exterior while the interior part is extremely well kept by Rita, the owner of the Palazzo. Moreover, it echoed the feeling of Gatsby's parties," explained Angelle.

"We promised ourselves to keep calm on the day. You only get to live the wedding day once and after all the preparations it would be a real pity to remember it for the bad weather; or lost beading or for the unruly hair and faded lipstick! Although we were blessed enough not to face any of these problems, what made our wedding different was a few things," Justin added.

The mood was set by music, led by Airport Impressions. Before the band started playing we had chosen a playlist which echoed the retro theme. The Spotify playlist was mainly by Scott Bradlee's band, Postmodern Jukebox, a group who play tributes of modern songs turned into retro music. Airport Impressions have graced the night with an amazing set-list that kept us and the guests on their feet!" Justin said. For their first dance, the newlyweds chose a song which has shared meaning and meets their style. They picked 'Yellow' by Coldplay, a song they both love.

The Cinderella photo-booth also added a hint of fun to the wedding. To fit with the Hollywood theme, the couple incorporated a few masks with faces of famous actors such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Charlie Chaplin and Clint Eastwood amongst others. Kids who attended the wedding had fun with the talented animators from Once Upon a Time who prepared a sweet card for the couple and were entertained with games and crafts.

Pinterest was a great inspiration for the bride and groom-to-be to gather ideas for wedding decorations. Fairy lights were used to give a fairy-tale feel to the special night. Since Justin works in the media industry he took care of planning the lighting set-up, especially to help the videographer and photographer.  However, the biggest job was done by Arnold from Audio System who visualized all their ideas and did a fantastic job with the lighting and set-up of the venue. Florist John Abela, did a great job with the florals. Floral décor was kept simple with a white theme throughout and a pink touch for the maid-of-honour and flower-girls' bouquets.

The couple's 450 guests received wedding invitations by Boo & Co in the shape of cinema tickets. "I wanted a vintage cinema ticket with an old Hollywood feel. Alexia, from Boo & Co did an amazing job. She listened and understood me immediately. The result was simply perfect," Angelle said.

For the souvenirs the couple decided to give a partial donation to Puttinu Cares. However, they still wanted to give a wedding keepsake to their guests. "We came across My Melts during Earth Garden. Stacey made seashell-shaped melts with scents of coconut and watermelon and kiwi to match the summer feel, for each guest."

"The highlight of the wedding was definitely the surprise dance which our family and friends have prepared! Kurt, Justin's brother, came up with the idea of a surprise wedding dance. Justin's cousin, Sarah, who is a professional dancer with Yada Dance Company prepared the choreography. Before the wedding everyone involved met up behind our backs to prepare a hell of a surprise which left us in awe. A memory we will treasure as we recall our wedding day!" Angelle recalled.

After the wedding, the couple spent a few days relaxing in the beautiful island of Gozo.
