The Chamber of Advocates slammed MCST chairman Jeffrey Pullicino attack after his “personal attack” on a magistrate, which the chamber said is unacceptable.
In a statement, the chamber expressed its disappointment at the recent comments made by Mr Pullicino Orlando, “a person with an official position with a government entity, which can only be seen as a personal attack on a member of the judiciary.”
“No person in the position occupied by Mr Pullicino Orlando should be at liberty to comment in this way about a member of the judiciary simply because he did not agree with a decision. The Facebook post uploaded by Mr Pullicino Orlando is unacceptable because it not only exposes a lack of respect towards the country’s judicial institutions, but is also testimony of a lack of respect towards the public post he himself occupies.
“Comments such as these do nothing except to undermine the serenity our institutions need to truly fulfil their fundamental role as an organ of the state,” the chamber said.
On Wednesday, Pullicino Orlando said the magistrate, Francesco Depasquale, was too busy to hear a case that had brought the country to a halt. “Let us call a spade, a spade – Shame on you,” he posted.
