Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that he is convinced that when the time comes, the Maltese public will choose the Labour Party for proper leadership. Without hinting at any particular election date, Dr Muscat said that he is positive that he has faith in the public to make the right choice, despite all the lies being thrown his way.
Speaking in Nadur this morning, the Prime Minister referred to the whistle blower who divulged more information on the Egrant saga, Dr Muscat said that this whistle blower lied and fabricated documents before and would not be surprised that she fabricated stories about him and his wife.
"I cannot describe the satisfaction I felt when despite all the mud they threw at us, the Maltese public knows how to decide. During this week we were constantly under attack by the Nationalist. But we have still been given the reassurance that this movement will remain the natural choice for the Maltese," Dr Muscat added while insisting that his party will always be the underdog.
Commenting on the whistleblower, Dr Muscat said that this person failed to present any proof, is accused of fraud and of trying to falsely accuse a police officer. "I don't want to attack this person. This is a reflection of the true nature of Simon Busuttil. A man of a weak political character."
"Remember that this is the leader who received an SMS and went to blab about on television, bringing a crisis to his own party," he added while referring to the db Group saga.
He said he is serene and is sleeping well at night because he knows he is in the right.
"We all know who does not sleep well at night, the leader who invents a scheme to bypass the party financing law. The PN leader who comes up with fraudulent schemes by presenting fake invoices," Dr Muscat added.
He also mentioned the allegations made by the PL media this morning on how PN MEPs use official EU funds to rent out space at the PN headquarters so that the money goes to the PN. "If you have nothing to hide, go in front of the anti-fraud office of the EU and present all documents," Dr Muscat insisted.
The Prime Minister commented on the National Minimum Wage agreement signed off this week. "This is the true meaning of prosperity with a purpose. We first strengthen our economy and now we make sure that this money is delivered to those in need."
"We are showing that we did not leave our roadmap on some forgotten shelf. And now after 4 years, every citizen in the country is paying fewer taxes, lower utility bills and has an increase in pay."
"We are experiencing a Maltese miracle - from debt to employment, from deficit to surplus. You remember my photo holding an ice block? I guess we did not freeze the minimum wage did we?"
Dr Muscat promised that by end of this year, those who apply for unpaid overtime will receive their first pay check. He also announced that the tender for the fast ferry between Gozo and Valletta was issued yesterday.
The PL leader lashed out at the "coalition of confusion", referring to the coalition between PD and PN. He described it as a national farce. He said that this coalition is trying to create instability in the country. "You can attack me or my family, but do not try to distabilise the country," he said.
"It would have been easy for me to sound the drums for battle. But I don't like such conflict. This is my message. We can be harsh against each other but remember that the national unity is far more important than partisan politics," Dr Muscat concluded while inviting everyone present for the mass meeting to be held tomorrow.
