Prime Minister Joseph Muscat welcomed the announcement of the expansion of Centrecom, which will increase its staff from 250 to 500 personnel.

Centrecom is an integrated customer contact operation staffed by a multilingual team. It is one of the largest contact centres in Malta and offers diversity of languages.  Centrecom Ltd, was added to World Aviation Group's portfolio in 2006. World Aviation Group formed around 20 years ago, beginning as the General Sales Agency (GSA), which represented several international airlines.

"Shareholders are convinced that there is enough work to enlarge the company. Through agreement between Malta Enterprise, Malta Industrial Parks and this company, it will double its workforce to 500 people. This is an important increase, both economically and socially," Dr Muscat said while visiting the company in Luqa.

The Prime Minister said that much of the company's work is directed towards the aviation sector. He said that 90% of the 250 employees at Centrecom are Maltese, "even when it comes to those non-mainstream language speakers." In addition, 60% of their employees are female, he said. "Many of the ones I spoke to are either working mothers re-entering the workforce or are undertaking their first job."

He said that competition in the Centrecom's business area is harsh, but stressed that Malta is competitive providing high quality workers with a knowledge of languages. He also saod that Malta is economically and politically stable.

Dr Muscat said that Centrecom will move their offices to the Mosta Technopark.. Intercom, he said, also offers the opportunity for workers who cannot work full-time

The move will liberate a strategic space which is right on the runway, he added.
