Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil this evening raised a concern regarding phone calls which he said elderly people have been receiving from individuals linked with the Labour Party, who were warning them that under a Nationalist Government their pensions will be removed.
Dr Busuttil was addressing a political acitivty in Ta Xbiex, under the theme 'I Choose Malta' as part of his electoral campaign.
"They are abusing of the elderly's goodness and vulnerability, worrying them, telling them that I will remove their pensions," he said, saying that Joseph Muscat does not know the meaning of 'fairplay'. "We are going to guarantee your pension now and in the future," he reassured the audience, "I ensure that I will increase your pensions to allow you to have decent lives."
Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil this evening also re-addressed the ongoing concern regarding Malta's reputation on an international level, especially within the financial sector, saying that if the Nationalist Party is elected, he will go in front of the European Union to clear Malta's name.
"I will go in front of EU summit and tell them that Malta is starting a new chapter, that Malta is determined to start anew, with a new Government that is going to raise Malta's name" he told those present at the political event.
Referring to the financial sector that is 'currently dangling from a string' he said that he would immediately get 'short term and long term' support and advice from a high level expert group, people working in the financial sector to get Malta back it's reputation which creates 'envy' to other European Countries.
Some people in this district have felt that that the Nationalist Party have taken them for granted, I want to assure you that the Nationalist Party wont take you for granted.
Dr Busuttil told those present that this morning he received a message from someone saying that they have two big clients, a €40 million investment, and they are waiting for Malta decision on 3 June to see whether "Malta's name will be cleared" and they are going to choose Malta to invest in, as opposed to Luxembourg or Cyprus.
"Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi are putting sectors at risk just to save their own skin," he said.
Dr Busuttil went on to express his grief towards the residents of Marsaskala this morning following the fire at Sant Antnin. "What we saw happening is not a coincidence," he said, "it is a result of incompetence, people who spend four years fooling around in corruption, these are things which never happen when leadership is serious, and should never happen again."
Democratic Party Leader Marlene Farrugia said that besides fighting a local and international battle, we are also fighting a battle for the presence of females in country leadership. She said that the Labour Party is issuing continuous attacks on the idea of females leading the country, so support for the PN/PD coalition is also support to female leadership.
