The BRND WGN & University Ring Road Races help Hospice Malta

Monday, 22 May 2017, 14:53 Last update: about 8 years ago

On 4 May, representatives from Malta University Holding Company and BRND WGN met the Hospice Malta fund-raising coordinator. They were excited to hand over €3,200 which was raised from this year's BRND WGN & University Ring Road Races.

The Malta University Holding Company has been organising these races since 2013 and in each edition has donated half the race fees to Hospice. This year, the races were given an even bigger facelift after re-securing title sponsorship from BRND WGN for the second year round, as well as through support in all forms and sizes from many other local companies.

The other main sponsors of the 2017 edition were Delta Media Services, Engel & Völkers Sara Grech Ltd, Key Contractors, XFM 100.2 and Outdoor Living. This led to a record amount of money being raised for Hospice. Furthermore, as in the previous year, an online campaign called Murphy Returns to Run for Hospice was set up to encourage more people to donate. In fact Murphy, the mysterious guy in the pink morph suit, returned to improve his personal best timing in both the Malta Half Marathon and the BRND WGN and University Ring Road Races.

Last March, approximately 370 participants showed their support for Hospice Malta by participating in the sixth edition of this annual road running event. Records were smashed, trophies and medals were won, but more importantly everybody ran for a cause.

Hospice Malta is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation, today caring for over 1,000 patients and their families. Their services are offered free of charge to patients suffering from cancer, motor neurone disease and end life respiratory, cardiac and renal disease.
