August will welcome back theTriton Fountain's bronze statues back to their place outside City Gate, according to Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Joe Mizzi.

The figures have been undergoing €4 million-worth of restoration works at Fonderia Artistica Marinelli in Florence, Italy.

Speaking at a press conference in front of City Gate, Minister Mizzi said that the concrete has been removed from the figures' waist down, and restoration works on the actual figures has began.

"Work will be finished close to August and in the same month or in that period, the bronze figures will arrive back in Malta and will be put back in their place and work will continue from there," he said.

In the press release, the restoration works were described as "extensive".  The basin of the fountain has been returned to its original condition, despite having been thought to be difficult to repair, the Minister said.

The Minister spoke about other works being done around Valletta, saying that he was "satisfied" with all the projects that have been happening, including "those which brought about challenges such as the new Parliament building."

The Minister also said that the works on the underground plant room and the underground tunnel which leads to the fountain were complete, according to the Minister.

Regarding Triton Square, the Minister said that the projects are in the fourth phase of the project and the reservoirs have been constructed, according to the press release.

He also announced that works are ongoing to place all wooden balconies at the City Gate shopping centre.

Minister Mizzi said that first three phases of the City Gate project have been completed, including the new traffic development outside the Education Ministry.
