Choose Joseph Muscat for Malta

Sunday, 28 May 2017, 08:10 Last update: about 8 years ago

On 3 June, choose Dr Joseph Muscat for Malta! Why do I say that? The track record of our young, intelligent and dynamic prime minister speaks for itself. Together with a formidable team around him, at the forefront of which has been Minister of Finance Prof. Edward Scicluna, and Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech, Dr Muscat has turned our country from being an “also ran” EU member-state, into one of the top echelons of the European Union.

There is no need to repeat the many outstanding achievements of the PL government during the first four years of this legislature, when 88 per cent of the electoral pledges have already been implemented, since these have been said over and over again throughout this electoral campaign. From the unbelievable achievement of turning a €362 million deficit into a €101 million surplus, to turning Enemalta from the brink of bankruptcy, to making a first profit of €40 million.

However, aside of these incredible successes, we have a prime minister who is humble enough to admit he has made mistakes, “some small, others not so small”. Not so the Opposition leader. He has been making a lot of mistakes even when he does not have the responsibility of taking  important decisions each day, if not each hour, like our prime minister has had to do. Dr Simon Busuttil has turned out to be an impulsive politician who takes decisions without thinking about the possible effects of his decisions. Perhaps the best example of this was his immediate decision to reveal the text of the message sent to him by Silvio Debono of db Group, live on TV, which has landed him and his party in a political scandal of mammoth proportions, the ramifications of which have still to unfold in the very near future.

This is why the choice facing voters on 3 June is pretty obvious. If you truly want the best for our country, there is only one obvious choice – choosing Joseph Muscat for Malta.
