Tuesday, 13 June 2017, 08:54 Last update: about 8 years ago

Dates proposed for the PN leadership election during an executive committee meeting held yesterday evening, on which there was no agreement, could mean that the party will not have a new leader until after Independence Day.

The Independence Day celebrations are one of the most important events for the Nationalist Party.

The Malta Independent is informed that, according to the proposed dates which have yet to be approved, the Executive Committee will approve the leadership election regulations by 20 June and these should be approved by the PN General Council on 27 June.

The process to determine who has a right to vote would close on 6 July. Two candidates will be chosen on September and these would address a party convention on 20 September. The vote would then be taken on 23 September, two days after Independence Day.
