INDEPTH: ‘I was wrong to choose Brussels over Malta’ – Comodini Cachia

INDEPTH online Friday, 16 June 2017, 11:35 Last update: about 8 years ago

Therese Comodini Cachia admitted she was wrong to initially choose to renounce to her parliamentary seat in Malta to remain as an MEP in Brussels, but said it also took courage on her part to reverse that decision.

Interviewed by The Malta Independent online editor Stephen Calleja on INDEPTH, Comodini Cachia said she had been approached by sincere and genuine people who made her realise that she should retain the seat she won on the eighth district, rather than stay on as an MEP.

She said she is now determined to serve the people who elected her in Parliament, saying that she has already booked PN clubs in the fourth and eighth districts, which she both contested, for eetings to be held with constituents.

The Nationalist Party is still under shock after losing a second election in a row with a huge deficit, but the time will come when its paid-up members will have a difficult decision to choose the people who are to lead it in the next few years, newly-elected MP Therese Comodini Cachia said.

Comodini Cachia said that the PN members who will be voting for the next leader, deputy leaders and other officials must pick the right persons for the right job.

They must sift through the respective candidates’ abilities and see that they choose according to these people’s skills, she said.
