Marlene Farrugia says she and Godfrey Farrugia to represent PD in Parliament

Thursday, 22 June 2017, 10:26 Last update: about 8 years ago

Partit Demokratiku Leader Marlene Farrugia said today that she and Godfrey Farrugia, who were elected as part of the Forza Nazzjonali coalition under the banner of the Nationalist Party, will be sitting on the Opposition benches to represent the PD.

In the last legislature, she said in a 10-minute video posted on Facebook this morning, she said she was elected on the Labour ticket, and later left the party to represent the new organisation she formed, the Democratic Party.

This time, pre-electoral circumstances led to the formation of the coalition with the Nationalist Party in a bid to rid the country of the Labour government, which did not maintain its promises. PD candidates were elected under the PN ticket, but now they will sit in Parliament as representatives of the PD, forming one Opposition to the government.

She said many were asking whether a third party was represented in Parliament, and the answer to this is "yes".

Farrugia said that a request has been made for her and Godfrey Farrugia to attend the parliamentary group meetings of the Nationalist Party, as the two of them formed part of the Opposition.

Farrugia's post on Facebook is apparently a reply to what Nationalist media are reporting today, that Godfrey Farrugia was elected on behalf of the Nationalist Party.
