"The future of our children relies on our schools, and that should help us ensure that the education being offered takes into consideration the different abilities of every boy and girl so that no one is left behind," MEP Miriam Dalli said during a visit to the Fgura Primary school. In the past weeks, this school inaugurated a new multisensory room with an alternative learning programme for students on the Autism spectrum.

Miriam Dalli lauded the school’s initiative and the teachers’ enthusiasm and dedication. "It’s really positive to see such initiatives being undertaken by our schools to reflect the different abilities of our students. Students learn at different pace and not all learn the same way. These specific programmes, with qualified teachers and adequate classrooms help each student to progress according to their respective rythm," the Maltese MEP remarked.

Dalli praised the commitment shown by the relevant authorities, and encouraged them to undertake more initiatives in this upcoming legislature to continue building on what has been achieved so far.

"Here we are talking about the principle of equity, where irrespective of the levels and abilities of students, our Education system manages to serve as an adequate tool that leads to success. Success not just in academic terms, but also in a personal way, where students learn new skills and abilities that will help them live a better life," Miriam Dalli said.

Miriam Dalli was accompanied by Acting Head of School Kristina Vella, College Principal George Psaila and Education Coordinator Josanne Ghirxi.

For the past years, Dalli was at the forefront to voice the concerns of students with learning difficulties such as Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia and their parents. This effort together with that of others, led the University of Malta to update its entry requirements in a way that takes into consideration the needs of these students without compromising its quality standards.
