Monday, 26 June 2017, 15:03 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Mediterranean Institute is pleased to launch its new Mediterranean Studies Series. The first volume, Capitalising on Culture?  Malta and the European Capital of Culture, is edited by Prof. Vicki-Ann Cremona.

The series is a special publication by the Institute's flagship Journal of Mediterranean Studies (ISSN 1016-3476). This occasional publication series is intended as a platform for research in the politics, history, culture and society of the Mediterranean region. As such we welcome proposals for single authored volumes and edited volumes which adopt a multi-disciplinary approach.

The papers in this inaugural volume critically interrogate the state of culture in Mediterranean island of Malta highlighting the prospects and possibilities of the designation of European Capital of Culture. The volume is a rich multidisciplinary collaboration featuring papers addressing a variety of topics including physical spaces, well-being, community formation, governance and heritage. The volume features papers by Marie Briguglio and Ariana Sultana, Colin Borg, JosAnn Cutajar and John Vella, Ruben Paul Borg, William Zammit, Carmel Borg and Peter Mayo and Jean Paul Baldacchino. Research for this volume was funded by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.

The volume will be available to purchase from local bookstores or directly by contacting the publishers on: [email protected]
