Shining a light on 'natural' sun care

Monday, 26 June 2017, 15:02 Last update: about 8 years ago

When it comes to sunscreens we have already established their importance however there are still a number of questions which people tend to ask how much sunscreen should I apply? How often should I reapply? Do I need to re-apply after a swimming event when the product states that it is water resistant? What should I look for when buying a sunscreen?

As the outdoors beckon with the warmer weather, preventing skin damage is even more important and should not be skimped on.  Choosing the right product to protect yourself against the sun can be pretty confusing.

Sunscreens are not just for beaches, by the pool or summertime. Leading doctors and skin experts have time and again highlighted the importance of sunscreen as an integral part of everyone's daily skin care routine in overcast weather and during the winter months. Sunscreen is vital for the prevention of skin cancer and should be used daily. Studies have shown that the regular use of sunscreen has been proven to reduce the incidence of skin cancer.

The first thing one has to understand is that there are two types of sunscreens available on the market today - those that absorb UV rays (chemical) and those that reflect UV rays (mineral). People that choose mineral sunscreens usually do so because they are either sensitive to the chemicals or are trying to avoid the impact of the chemical sunscreens on their body or the environment. The mineral UV filters zinc oxide and titanium dioxide do  not break down in the sun thus offering ample coverage of both UVA and UVB rays- they provide high sun protection with minimum health hazards.

Mineral sun blocks act as a 0physical barrier between the skin and the sun, with UV rays bouncing off the skin like a mirror rather than being absorbed.

Synthetic ingredients in the range have been swapped with skin-friendly plant extracts and essential oils, thus acting as skincare.

Sourced from ethical manufacturers, certified natural and organic with conscientious packaging, Organii products are suitable for the whole family. Many people want to choose the healthier or more natural option, but do not want to compromise on the aesthetics of the product.

Mineral sunscreen ingredients, by nature, are heavier and more difficult to spread on the skin than chemical sunscreens however Organii has made the mineral particles smaller, along with improved fluidity when compared to other mineral sun blocks - this provides an overall improvement of the feel of the end product.

Mineral sunscreens WORK. There is a trade-off in the appearance and feel of a mineral versus chemical sunscreen, but not all are heavy, oil based formulas. Organii is the perfect fit.

For those of us dedicated to making healthy decisions for our bodies, our families, and the environment, one is encouraged to protect himself from the sun with shirts and hats when possible, while asking questions when choosing a sunscreen. Every Organii product has ingredients which are researched carefully, sourced responsibly, tested extensively, and combined with love to make sunscreens that actually make our skin feel better.
