Seville-based flamenco dance company Puerto Flamenco are back in Malta, performing two nights at the Malta International Arts Festival 2017. Their eagerly awaited return will feature world premiere of their latest production Ship of Theseus at Fort St Elmo in Valletta on 1 and 2 July.

Company directors Francesca Grima and Andrej Vujicic will be joined by Seville's elite flamenco performers in a contemporary production that foregrounds their trademark search for the essence and authenticity within the flamenco genre.

Puerto Flamenco's latest work is an exploration of the concepts implied in the philosophical paradox of the Ship of Theseus, that opens up the discourse on important issues of identity, permanence of memory ideas and relationships, poses questions on essence and authenticity, contemporary influences on traditional cultures, and importance of preservation through innovation.

The show incorporates projections, smartphone apps, body percussion, electronic music, two of the finest male flamenco dancers Antonio Molina 'El Choro' and Abel Harana, as well sublime accompaniment by singer Jesus Corbacho and guitarist Ruben Romero. The company also presents a first-time collaboration with award-winning Felix Vazquez on audio visual content and live projections.

Catch the performance at the Malta International Arts Festival, 1 and 2 July, Fort St Elmo, Valletta at 9pm. Tickets can be purchased online at ticketenginex.kreattivita.org, more info on maltaartsfestival.org, www.puertoflamenco.com
