Tuesday, 27 June 2017, 18:58 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Planning Authority has ordered the removal of a number of political billboards which were placed during the election.

Images of a couple of billboards in question can be seen in the images in this article, however this newsroom was informed that such notices were seen on other campaign billboards.

Last week, it was reported that the PN and PL were using billboards erected during the elections for commercial advertising campaigns.

Political billboards are exempt from Planning Authority permit as long as they are used during election campaigns, however there are specific time frames at law as to when political billboards are allowed. The law states that a political advertisement means any advertisement, including a billboard, which is used for the display of material which relates exclusively to a general election or to a referendum or to an election for local councils and which is displayed not earlier than three months before the date on which such election or referendum is to be held and not later than one week from the official announcement of the result of such election or referendum."
