When businesses give back, the community benefits - Minister Chris Cardona

Wednesday, 5 July 2017, 13:39 Last update: about 8 years ago

Minister Chris Cardona attended the presentation of a €25,000 donation from main sponsor Foster Clark to the LifeCycle Foundation. The Minister commended the successful collaboration of LifeCycle and Foster Clark, and their coming together in order to bring this ambitious project to fruition, with the nation owing to the athletes, people, and businesses that support the Foundation.

This is the Foundation’s 19th year of raising money for those suffering from renal failure. 16 cyclists are taking part and will cycle for 10 to 12 hours for ten days, from Nairobi in Kenya to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania - a total distance of approximately 1,900km.

“This year, the money raised will go towards an information system relating to the recipients on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. This system will be instrumental in determining the best recipient for a particular donor kidney. The Foundation is also planning to fund extended psychological support to deceased donors’ respective relatives, in conjunction with a drive by the renal unit to extend psychological services for transplant recipients and living donors. Our commitment to research remains strong as we believe that in the fight against renal failure, knowledge is power, said LifeCycle founder Alan Curry.

Minister Chris Cardona encouraged businesses to consider supporting one of the many worthy causes out there - a cause that means something to them on a personal level, or to the community at large.

“Giving back results in a better place to live and work for the company, its employees, and the community as a whole. Employees are more engaged, productivity is boosted, ethical behaviour encouraged, and people take greater pride in belonging to such an organisation. Building goodwill can boost a business’s bottom line, explained the Minister.

Minister Cardona congratulated both LifeCycle and Foster Clark’s for their tireless advocacy and efforts, and expressed the Government’s continued support to their cause.
